UHOVI wins national Guardian award

The Universities of the Heads of the Valleys Institute (UHOVI) scooped a national award at last night’s (27th February) Guardian University Awards.

A unique partnership between the University of Glamorgan and the University of Wales, Newport, and backed by Welsh Government, UHOVI won the ‘commitment to widening participation’ category.

PONT Calls for Disaster Relief Appeal

PONT – the community partnership between RCT/Pontypridd, the University of Glamorgan and Mbale in Uganda has started a disaster emergency relief fund after the district of Bududa was struck by a series of horrendous land slides earlier this week. So far over 400 people are known to have died or are missing, and over 20,000 have been made homeless by the landslides and the resulting flooding. The disaster was due to a combination of torrential rains related to climate change, and deforestation of the slopes.

Friday, 31st October, saw Merthyr Tydfil’s town centre link bridge from the college car park to the town centre transformed into the ‘Bridge Gallery’ as a Glamorgan GATES exhibition was launched. The exhibition, launched to celebrate Big Draw day, included the work of 70 participants who took part in a month long art project that spanned the whole borough. Over 80 people and passers by were treated to a poetry reading by Andrew Thomas from Merthyr College.
