British Airways and University of Glamorgan announce engineering partnership

October 1, 2012

British Airways and the University of Glamorgan have signed a landmark agreement to combine technical training for one of the world’s leading airlines with the enhanced career prospects of a university degree.

Under the new initiative, subject to accreditation by the Civil Aviation Authority, engineers will graduate from Glamorgan with a BSc degree in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering having also completed the industry-standard EASA Part 66 training, awarded under British Airways’ licence. Engineering staff at British Airways will also have the opportunity to study academic modules from the University at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Watchdog finds too many passengers in Wales are being ‘kept in the dark’

Passenger Focus is calling for real-time information at every unstaffed station as a minimum standard, waiting area improvements and encouragement of community-station partnerships following passenger research in Wales.

The independent passenger watchdog with the Wales Transport Research Centre has investigated why passenger satisfaction with stations in Wales is consistently lower than the Great Britain average. Passenger Focus has discussed its findings with the Welsh Assembly Government during the course of the research, so has welcomed its recent promises to address information and accessibility issues, particularly as part of future franchise considerations. However, the watchdog is pushing for action to be taken sooner rather than later.

One passenger commented: “Real-time information would be good, I was once stuck for 30 minutes at the station, there had been an accident affecting the line, but I had no way of getting any information.”

A new research and education unit which works directly with Welsh businesses and organisations to develop governance and leadership practises, was launched by the University of Glamorgan’s Business School this month by Andrew Davies, Welsh Assembly Minister for Enterprise, Innovation and Networks.

The University of Glamorgan Business School’s BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance degree has received high level endorsement from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) granting students the maximum exemptions for its accredited course.
