University of Glamorgan animation graduate Sarah Davies has had her illustrations published in the ‘Celebrity Bake Book’ which went on sale this Christmas.
Sarah’s work includes the cover illustration for the book to which celebrities, chefs and politicians have contributed their favourite baking recipes.
The book is the brainchild of baking fan Linda Morris who contacted the celebrities via Twitter and asked if they would donate a recipe to her book. The aim of the publication is to fundraise for The Ben Kinsella Trust.
Sarah worked on the illustrations as part of a 10 week GO Wales Work Placement with publishing company Accent Press in Bedlinog. As part of her project she also designed covers for a range of other publications.
Sarah said, “I started out as a book cover designer but soon branched out into other design areas including magazine adverts, advertising banners, logos, sales catalogue, web icons and illustrations. For the 'Celebrity Bake Book’ I created the initial layout and colour design and did the cover and illustration work. I also did the covers for a series of crime fiction books and romance novels.”
The work placement was advertised via the GO Wales project which aims to help students and graduates to make the best start to their careers in Wales through quality work experience opportunities and gave Sarah the opportunity to experience working within a small company in Wales.
She said, “It was interesting to see the internal workings of a small company and how adaptable everyone had to be. It was great experience and gave me a different perspective on my career and which creative industries I could be involved in.”
“I’m currently working as a freelance animator and production designer, currently involved in a full time project pitching a new 'Family Guy’ style animated sitcom series called 'The Chaudhry’s’ about a London based Indian and English family.”
Hazel Cushion, Managing Director of Accent Press said “This is such an important project and we are delighted to be involved. It is wonderful that Linda Morris already has so many key contributors and the interest from people wanting to be involved is astounding.”
