February 14, 2013

Chris Pickard, a Masters student at the University of Glamorgan, has won the 2013 Senior Men’s Yonnex Welsh National Badminton competition.

Chris, who is a sports scholarship student at the University of Glamorgan, commented, “I am really delighted to have won this title for the first time and was very pleased with how things went on the day. It was a long day but it was all worth it in the end”.

Chris, originally from Buckley in North Wales, is studying for a Masters degree in Computer Forensics. Chris was also the Welsh National Champion from the ages of 15 to 19 and has won two Welsh senior caps.

Dr Tudor Williams, Director of Sport commented, “‘I am delighted for Chris that he has won his first senior national title. Not many students are National Champions and this is well deserved. Chris also coaches and plays for the University’s badminton club which plays in the BUCS leagues every week. Chris’s commitment to the University team as a sports scholarship student is also excellent. I am sure that Chris, who is only 24, can go on to win many more titles”.
