Courses secure Skillset Accreditation

November 19, 2012

Five University of Glamorgan courses have been awarded the Creative Skillset Tick from creative industries training body Creative Skillset.

The University’s BA (Hons) Television and Film Set Design, MA Film Producing and BA (Hons) Visual Effects and Motion Graphics received accreditation for the first time, while its BA (Hons) Animation and BA (Hons) Computer Animation renewed their accreditation for a further three years.

The courses were awarded with accreditation after a rigorous assessment process that considered the quality of the faculty’s industry links, work experience opportunities and graduate employment levels.

The Creative Skillset Tick is an industry kitemark that identifies courses that employers feel best prepare students for work in the Creative Industries.

David Abraham, Chief Executive of Channel 4 and Creative Skillset Board member describes the Creative Skillset Tick as, “an essential signpost that helps potential students choose courses that are approved by industry. It tells them the course has gone through thorough assessment, including a review of graduate employment, work experience and links with industry, which contribute to improved employment prospects on completion of the course”.

All five of the University of Glamorgan’s accredited awards are delivered at its Cardiff School of Creative & Cultural Industries.

Gill Sandford, Deputy Dean of the Cardiff School of Creative & Cultural Industries said, “Receiving accreditation from Creative Skillset is a real seal of approval from the creative industries, and a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our teaching staff. We will continue to work with industry to improve and focus our courses, so that we can continue producing the highly skilled graduates needed by the creative sector in the UK.”

The Creative Skillset accredited courses sit within the portfolio of the Skillset Media Academy Wales, a Higher Education and industry partnership that supports courses with the “tick” in Wales with additional benefits. The Academy is a collaboration between the University of Glamorgan, the University of Wales, Newport, Swansea Metropolitan University and Aberystwyth University.
