Glamorgan hosts international trade and investment delegation

February 21, 2012

The University of Glamorgan Hydrogen Research Centre at Baglan will host a delegation from UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) this week, 23rd February.

The Welsh Government is organising the visit by UKTI officers to highlight Welsh expertise in areas covering innovation, technology and science.

Wales is one of only three areas in the UK, alongside East of England and London, to bid successfully to secure the delegation of twenty UKTI officers from countries including China, India, Brazil, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

The visit will provide the opportunity for the University to develop closer links with the UKTI and its overseas representatives. The longer-term aim is to increase inward investment and collaborative projects.

UKTI officers working overseas identify opportunities for companies to invest in the UK, establish partnerships with UK companies and develop collaborative research and development projects with UK universities.

Business Minister Edwina Hart said the visit would provide a great opportunity to promote Wales, Welsh based companies and Welsh universities.

UKTI overseas officers work to raise the profile of the UK as a destination for inward investment and this visit will help them increase their knowledge and learn more about the offerings, expertise and opportunities that Wales has to offer.
“It provides an excellent opportunity to showcase some of the research facilities and innovative projects underway in Wales and to highlight and promote the potential for collaborative working with overseas companies.”

The Welsh Government is hosting a networking event on the evening of February 23 for the UKTI delegation and Welsh businesses and universities.
