Chair appointment for Professor Lacey

Professor Stephen Lacey, of the University of Glamorgan’s Cardiff School of Creative & Cultural Industries, has been announced as the new Chair of the Standing Conference of University Drama Departments (SCUDD).

SCUDD has been in existence for more than 30 years and represents the interests of the disciplines of drama, theatre and performance in Higher Education in the UK.

It has over 90 institutional members from across the sector, including pre- and post-1992 universities and exists to represent and defend the interests of the subject domain nationally.

Commenting on his appointment Stephen said, “It is a great privilege to have been elected to the post of Chair of SUDD for the next 3 years. I have been active in the organisation for over 20 years, and know it to be a highly–regarded and influential body, which lobbies effectively on behalf of the discipline and provides a useful forum for scholarly debate.

“I am also aware that some of the most prominent academics in drama and performance have preceded me as Chair – so I have big shoes to fill! There will be many challenges for the discipline, as for HE as a sector, and I’m looking forward to working with the rest of the SCUDD executive on behalf of the membership.”

SCUDD provides a mechanism for debate about the discipline and for the exchange of good practice, through working groups and an annual conference.
