DIARY MARKER
UNIVERSITY OF GLAMORGAN – TREFOREST CAMPUS
DATE: WEDNESDAY 5TH OCTOBER 2011
TIME: 9:00AM
Cars that can be powered by plugging them into the mains and a ‘rolling road’ which can be used to simulate driving conditions are just a few of the technologies to be unveiled at the University of Glamorgan’s Centre for Automotive & Power System Engineering (CAPSE) this week, 5th October.
First Minister Carwyn Jones will take the opportunity to test drive some of the vehicles and discover more about the battery technology that powers electric and hybrid vehicles.
The Centre is home to Wales’ only 4 wheel drive ‘rolling road’ which allows experts to test next generation vehicles by accurately simulating driving conditions without going out onto the road.
The electrically powered vehicles are powered by literally plugging them into mains electricity and can run for up to 100 miles on a single charge.
PHOTOGRAPHY/MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES
The First Minister will be touring the facility at 9:30am. Journalists and photographers will have access to the rolling road and the electric powered vehicles. Vehicles will be made available to be driven around the University campus.
CAPSE is part sponsored by the Welsh Government’s flagship A4B programme under the European Development Fund.
