First Book Success for Creative Writing Student

Mike Thomas a student on the University of Glamorgan’s Masters course in Creative Writing has published his first novel ‘A Pocket Notebook’, which is inspired by his own experiences of working in the police force.

A 38-year-old serving police officer, Mike has been a freelance writer for several years, publishing travel articles and short fiction.

Published by William Heinemann, A Pocket Notebook is a darkly humorous tale of an out-of-control policeman experiencing a spectacular breakdown.

The book was recently reviewed in the Independent newspaper.

Creative writing graduate Dan Rhodes’ latest novel Little Hands Clapping was reviewed in the Guardian this weekend.
