September 27, 2007
The University of Glamorgan has been shortlisted for the prestigious title of ‘University of the Year’ in this year’s Times Higher Awards.
Glamorgan faced stiff competition with 90% of UK universities entering in one of more of the categories in the competition. The results will be announced at an awards evening which will take place on Thursday 29th November in London.
Vice-Chancellor of the University Professor David Halton commented, “We are thrilled to have been shortlisted for this sought-after award. Glamorgan is going through times of exciting change and as a university is progressing from strength to strength. This recognition on a national scale is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of Glamorgan’s first class staff.”
Glamorgan’s well deserved place on the shortlist follows a period of major developments at the University.
In 2006, the University merged with Merthyr Tydfil College of Further Education in order to improve the progression opportunities for students aged 16+ in the area.
Glamorgan has also opened ‘ATRiuM’ a Creative & Cultural Industries Faculty costing £32m which provides exciting opportunities for students in the heartland of a developing industry sector in Wales. The University also incorporated the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama Conservatoire into its group on 1st January 2007.
