University of Glamorgan Professor Philip Gross wins Wales Book of the Year

University of Glamorgan Professor and poet Philip Gross has won the Wales Book of the Year 2010 for I Spy Pinhole Eye – a collection of poems written to accompany Simon Denison’s pinhole photography – published by Cinnamon Press. The award follows the success of his poetry collection “The Water Table” which won the 2010 T S Eliot Prize earlier this year.

Professor Gross faced strong competition from across Wales and even within his own University: Glamorgan MPhil in Writing student Mike Thomas, also nominated for his first novel, Pocket Notebook (Heinemann).

At a ceremony at the University’s Treforest campus, he was presented with an honorary Doctorate of the University by the Chancellor of the University of Glamorgan, Lord Morris of Aberavon.

Glamorgan Spin-Out GeoVS Ltd Secures £250,000 Investment

The University of Glamorgan spin-out company, GeoVS Ltd, has secured a £250,000 equity investment from Commercial Funding Provider for SMEs, Finance Wales, to continue developing its interactive 3D visualisation and simulation software platform used in marine and geo-modelling applications including underwater planning, maritime navigation and vessel traffic management.

Soccer Stars of the future train with their City idols

Young footballers honing their playing skills at a summer Glamorgan Sports Camp enjoyed a boost today with the chance to meet and play with their idols. Cardiff City first team stars Aaron Wildig and Adam Matthews, themselves were former members of the Cardiff City Academy, took part in training and a question-and-answer session with over 40 budding footballers at the Treforest Campus.
