Rhys Davies Short Story Competition
Event Date February 22, 2012 7 p.m.
Location – Norwegian Church, Cardiff Bay
The much-awaited results of the Rhys Davies Short Story Competition will be announced at an official ceremony in Cardiff Bay on Wednesday 22 February. The newly refurbished Norwegian Church will play host to the event which will see the First Prize winner presented with a cheque for £1,000. Ten runners-up will also be announced, each will receive a cheque for £100.
The event will begin with a special preview screening of a recently rediscovered set of recordings from 1991 – 1993 of Welsh fiction writers being interviewed about their work.
The nine films, produced by Professor Tony Curtis, feature a who’s who of Wales’ fiction writers from the latter part of the 20th century – Dannie Abse, Ron Berry, Emyr Humphreys, Siân James, Glyn Jones, Elaine Morgan, Leslie Norris, Alun Richards and Bernice Rubens were all filmed at the Treforest campus reading their own work and in conversation. The films, which were shot as part of a series from the Polytechnic of Wales (now the University of Glamorgan), will soon be available to view in full on the Literature Wales website.
The evening will also see The Rhys Davies Trust and The Welsh Academy launch their fourth and final set of literary postcards. Pick up your free set of 16 postcards on the night. Postcards from the previous three sets will also be available.
The Rhys Davies Short Story Competition is administered by Literature Wales and supported by the Rhys Davies Trust.
