University of Glamorgan

Public Lecture: History, Community and Storytelling

Event Date July 14, 2011 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Location – Garth Olwg Lifelong Learning Campus

About the lecture

Professor Hamish Fyfe, Professor of the Arts and Society at the University of Glamorgan, discusses storytelling in the digital age.

Storytelling is one of our oldest art forms − a unique human skill shared between people, uniting words and the world and building a sense of community between tellers and listeners. In traditional storytelling, the emphasis is as much on the telling as the story. Stories are recreated each time by the teller and passed on through generations.

In the modern age, stories surround us not just in conversation but in newspapers, novels, on the television and the internet. This lecture will analyse the place of storytelling in the 21st century, and share stories, traditional and otherwise.
